I was back at the Teatro Real this morning, this time interpreting for Peter Sellars at the press conference for Aindamar, Osvaldo Golijov's opera based on the life of Federico García Lorca.
For the performance in Madrid, they've gotten permission to incorporate Lorca's own words, and will use 9 poems, to be recited by Spanish actress Nuria Espert, which have been interwoven into the original opera.
So it will be an entirely new experience of this work, and promises to be very interesting. (I'll get to go to a dress rehearsal on Thursday.)
What I must remember for future interpreting gigs, though, is NEVER to go with just a single pen. Mine ran out in the middle of Sellars' opening remarks. Oopsie!
